Coupling Guard, SAE adaptor housing and spacer

SAE adaptor housing and spacer

Description

The couplings / bells serve as the connection point between two machines, sub-machines, to perform the function of a solid connection, the typical installation is between the engine and the alternator. They are indispensable when the engine and the part of the system to be connected have different sizes or configurations that are not compatible with each other. They are usually designed as rings (without windows) when they have a reduced thickness up to 50 mm, while for larger sizes, they are designed in a bell shape. The bells also serve the function of protecting the transmission joint and preventing accidental contact with moving parts, avoiding harm to people and objects. They can be custom-designed to meet the specifications of the engine and the parts of the system to be connected, taking into account dimensions, mounting holes, and compatibility constraints of the components. Typically, attachment points for industrial engines comply with SAE standards. Bells are usually made of steel to ensure good strength and durability, and they can be shaped to adapt to different types of transmission configurations, based on the length of the alternator shaft or the length of the joint. Moreover, they can have openings for ventilation and holes for the installation of related components, such as the speed sensor or other accessories, as well as drainage holes. The sizes of ventilation openings can be adjusted according to the cooling needs of the joint. With modern design methods, connections can be simulated, and 3D prints can be created.
